Up to $40,000 scholarship to support high-achieving international students to pursue coursework studies at the University of Sydney.

How to apply

No application is required, as all eligible students who have secured an unconditional offer of admission by the following dates, will be automatically considered:

The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

Benefits

Four scholarship amounts are offered based on your ranking against the selection criteria:

  1. $40,000 payable for one year in two equal installments per semester
  2. $20,000 payable for one semester
  3. $10,000 payable for one semester
  4. $5,000 payable for one semester

The availability of some amounts may be limited to specified cohorts.

Who's eligible

You must:

  • be an international student
  • have applied for but not yet commenced a bachelor’s degree or a coursework master’s degree that is a CRICOS registered award program usually delivered onshore at the University of Sydney
  • receive an unconditional offer of admission by the relevant close date.

Background

The Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships are awarded to exceptional international students.

1. Background

a. The Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships are awarded to exceptional international students. The Scholarship is open to all commencing international students enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework full degree.

2. Eligibility

a. To be eligible for the Scholarship, applicants must be an international student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003.

b. The applicant must have applied for but not yet commenced an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree at the University of Sydney.

c. Applicants commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney are eligible provided they have not previously held the Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships.

d. Recipients of scholarships provided by the Australian Government are not eligible.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit as assessed from a student’s application for admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of two nominees of the Executive Director, Sydney Future Students and one nominee of the Admissions Office.

4. Value

a. Four scholarship amounts are offered based on ranking against selection criteria:

i. $40,000 payable for one year in two equal installments per semester

ii. $20,000 payable for one semester

iii. $10,000 payable for one semester

iv. $5,000 payable for one semester The availability of some amounts may be limited to specified cohorts.

b. Applicants must complete the Acceptance of their Unconditional Offer by the relevant deadline associated with their scholarship offer round, and remain enrolled after census date.

c. The payment will be made on or after relevant census date.

d. Deferral or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted except in exceptional circumstances.

e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

f. No other amount is payable.

5. Sydney International Student Award

Students who receive a Sydney International Student Award can only receive a VCIS to the maximum value of $20,000.

6. Ongoing eligibility

a. With respect to recipients of the VCIS scholarships payable in 2 installments,

i. If you received a VCIS that is split into two payments the recipient, must maintain a minimum semester average mark (SAM) of 65 and have no outstanding fees in order to receive their next payment.

ii. The recipient undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

iii. The Scholarship is transferable to another major, degree or faculty but is not transferrable to another University.

7. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

i. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

ii. becomes a domestic student,

iii. commences part-time study without prior approval,

iv. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

v. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

vi. has accepted another scholarship administered by the University of Sydney (funded by the University or by a third party), of a value at or exceeding A$10,000 per annum,

vii. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or

viii. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.

8. Other Requirements

a. Scholarship recipients may be invited to promote the program in which they are enrolled as well as represent the University of Sydney at student orientation, marketing events and corporate networking events.
