Grant Information
The NL Scholarship is a scholarship made available by the Dutch Ministry of Education Culture and Science together with Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. It is meant for students who want to study, do research, or do an internship outside the European Economic Area (EEA). There is a limited number of NL Scholarships available - 72 scholarships and students will be selected by their faculty. Information about the selection procedure and deadline can be obtained from the Faculty’s International Exchange Office.
The contribution towards your study/internship expenses is a one-off compensation of €2500. Please note that a NL Scholarship is not meant to cover all your expenses. It is a limited allowance toward the extra expenses you will incur while living abroad. If the NL Scholarship is awarded, it will be paid to you in one instalment after your return, upon receipt of your travel report.
Eligibility
You are eligible to apply for the NL Scholarship if:
- You are going abroad
- You are following a full time programme at TU Delft
- You are and will remain registered as a full time student at TU Delft during your stay abroad. During the stay abroad you will pay the statutory fee to TU Delft
- The duration of your stay abroad is at least 7 weeks.
- Your study, research or internship is fully recognised as part of your TU Delft academic programme and consist of at least 10 ECTS
- Your activity will take place in a country outside the EEA and not in your country of origin.
- You are a Master student
- You are a bachelor student preferably having passed all your obligatory two-year BSc courses (i.e. obtained 120 ECTS) at the start of your study, research or internship abroad
- You are a talented, open-minded student having obtained above average study results, you are ambitious and enterprising and you have relevant extra-curricular activities
- You do not receive any other TU Delft mobility grants (CvB, ERASMUS+, JvE, IS, STIR) in addition to the NL Scholarship. You can only receive the NL Scholarship once during your registration period at TU Delft.
Application Procedure
- Check your Faculty International Office website or Brightspace page for details on the selection criteria, application procedure and deadline. Each faculty’s selection criteria may differ. The criteria listed on the faculty’s webpage are leading.
- The Faculty International Office will send your nomination file (consisting of the NL Scholarship application form and enclosures) to the Education Service Centre (ESC).
- Education Service Centre will send you a grant letter listing the conditions for the scholarship and the guidelines for the travel report.
- Sign and return the grant letter to the Education Service Centre to indicate your acceptance of the terms and conditions.
Final Obligations
- Submit your travel report to the Education Service Centre outgoingglobal-esa@tudelft.nl 1 month after conclusion of your stay abroad.
N.B.: Where necessary ESC may request a provisional travel report. If you are unable to submit your travel report by the deadline, you may request an extension. Your request for an extension must be submitted before expiration of the one-month deadline. If we have not received your travel report before this date, the grant awarded to you will expire.
Terms and Conditions
- Students must keep TU Delft informed of the outcome of other grant applications. TU Delft has the right to withdraw the NL Scholarship or to demand (partial or whole) repayment of sums already paid, in case an external grant is awarded to the student
- You must register your study abroad contact details in MyTUDelft (at least 14 days before departure) by which you are automatically awarded free-of-charge TU Delft travel insurance.
- You are to refrain from engaging in any political and/or commercial activities during your time abroad that could damage the reputation of TU Delft
- You are expected to cooperate with TU Delft on publicity regarding the NL Scholarship. This may include publishing your name, grant award and the final report on the TU Delft website, meeting with other students to exchange experiences and informing students at partner universities about studying at TU Delft
- Students participating in joint programmes with foreign universities are not eligible for the NL Scholarship
Early Termination
- The student must inform the Education Service Centre immediately if the period of study/internship/research for which a grant has been awarded cannot commence or is prematurely terminated, or if the student is unable to complete the entire programme or wishes to amend the programme for any reason whatsoever. The Education Service Centre will then decide on continuation, withdrawal or amendment of the grant.

For which country can I apply for the scholarship?
The scholarship may also be requested for activities taking place at these destinations: Aruba, Curacao, Sint-Maarten, Suriname, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
When is a provisional travel report required?
This is only required if your stay abroad is finishing after 1 May.
Where can I find the application form?
This is provided to you by your Faculty’s international office to eligible students only.
If I am applying for the NL Scholarship, Can I still apply for STIR?
Yes you can, if you receive the Netherlands Scholarship, we will cancel your STIR application. Please notify us of this too at outgoingglobal-esa@tudelft.nl
