NEW: Emerging Region Bursary
As another effort to improve equity and access to education for youth, Columbia College is pleased to announce the new Emerging Region Bursary. Many regions around the world face ongoing uncertainty and structural barriers to equitable access to higher education. These funds will be targeted to youth from diverse regions where the impact of educational opportunities are emerging. Successful recipients should have a demonstrated commitment to academic success and be new applicants to Columbia College. A select number of bursaries are available for specific regions each year, dependent on available funding and the College’s commitment to equitable access to education.

Columbia College Entrance Scholarship
This scholarship is intended to provide youth who have demonstrated academic aptitude and a commitment to success, who are facing barriers, with an opportunity to access a higher education. Students must be a new applicant to Columbia College. Successful recipients will be selected from regions around the world where there are significant, ongoing, and systemic barriers to higher education.

Columbia College Academic Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of academic performance in the previous semester, with consideration also given to involvement in College and community activities, as well as a personal essay. Eight scholarships are awarded to students studying at the University Transfer/Associate Degree level, and the other two scholarships, including the Gerry Brown Memorial Scholarship, are awarded to two students in the Secondary Program.

Awarded to an outstanding student in the Math/Sciences in memory of John Helm, former Director of Admissions, Vice Principal, and longtime employee of Columbia College.

Guard.me Scholarship for International Business Students
In the Winter Semester of each year, one scholarship worth $5000 is awarded to an outstanding international student in the field of Business. This scholarship is provided by guard.me, the provider of the Columbia College Student Medical Plan.
Outstanding Student Scholarship
In the Winter Semester of each year, one scholarship worth $5000 is awarded to an outstanding student in the UT program, nominated by two instructors. The scholarship specifically recognizes the student’s interest in, and dedication to their studies. Participation in activities at the College is also considered.
The Gary Swanson English Preparation Scholarship
It is awarded to the student each semester who best demonstrates excellence in their University Preparatory English class (099) or classes (Engl 098 and WD 098). This award is named in memory of Gary Swanson, a long-standing, dedicated, member of the College and valued Instructor in the English Division.

Scholar Path Program
Scholarship for Students Transitioning from Columbia College to a Baccalaureate program at a Canadian University
The Scholar Path Program provides financial assistance to students and alumni who have successfully graduated or are transferring from a program at Columbia College and have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, leadership potential, and a commitment to their chosen field of study.
The scholarship will be open to all students/alumni who have completed a minimum of 30 transfer credits at Columbia College and have been admitted into a Bachelor’s program at a Canadian University.
Applicants who are Canadian Citizens or who have obtained Permanent Residency in Canada are eligible to receive $10,000 towards their first year of studies at a Canadian University. International students on a study permit are eligible to receive $30,000 towards their first year of studies at a Canadian University. A selection committee will award a limited number of scholarships each year dependent on the funding available.

MOSAIC Educational Enhancement Award
The MOSAIC Awards Committee will give six recipients $5,000 each in 2023, to pursue academic, professional, or vocational studies.
Award Criteria Recipients are selected for meeting some or all of the below criteria:
• New arrival or refugee
• Has a financial need
• Living in Canada for less than 5 years
• Has been accepted to an educational program or has a plan to enhance their education.
• Wants to pursue academic, professional, or vocational studies.
• Open to all ages
This award may be renewed yearly for the applicant, for a total award of $20,000 over four consecutive years. The recipient will engage in a renewal process each year and school transcripts must be submitted with the renewal application.

Kinbrace Educational Award
The Kinbrace Educational Award supports the post-secondary educational aspirations of one foreign-born young person who made a refugee claim in Canada (or whose parents made a refugee claim) and is now a protected person, permanent resident, or Canadian citizen.
Award Criteria
The Kinbrace Educational Award will be given to a person under the age of 25 who is graduating high school, or who graduated within the last five years, with a high school diploma, and who:
• Is in British Columbia, pursuing post-secondary education in Canada.
• Who made, or whose parents made, a refugee claim (and received a negative or positive decision) and is now a:
- Protected Person or has Convention Refugee status, or
- Permanent Resident, or
- Canadian Citizen
- Was not born in Canada.

Eyob G. Naizghi Scholarship Award
This award is presented to support the education and training of a female refugee with future leadership aspirations. This $5,000 scholarship supports their education and training through academic or vocational postsecondary education. This scholarship is in recognition of the outstanding leadership of Eyob Naizghi, Executive Director of MOSAIC from 2001-2018.
Award Criteria
Candidates must be nominated by a staff member of a community organization. The recipient is chosen based on the following:
• Financial need
• Merit
• Being a female refugee
• Confirmed acceptance to an educational institution.

Ann & Jo-Ann Sobkow Award
MOSAIC is proud to award this $3,000 scholarship to a refugee aged 25 years and over to help pay for their education in a helping profession. The Ann & Jo-Ann Sobkow Award helps refugees in Canada pay for education to pursue a helping career. These careers may include education, health care, social work, counselling, or community development.
Award Criteria
To be eligible for this award, recipients must meet the following:
• Be a refugee and currently living in Canada.
• Be 25 years of age and over.
• Be going to school for a helping profession (e.g., education, health care, social work, counselling, community development)
• Plan to enroll in a Canadian post-secondary school and/or earn Canadian accreditation for gainful employment, continued settlement and contributions in Canada.

Save-on-Foods x UFCW Local 1518 Joint Diversity Scholarship
Up to ten $1,000 scholarships are available and will be awarded to applicants who have promoted diversity awareness and acceptance in their community and have not previously received the Joint Diversity Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students who are BC residents and are going to be pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited institution within the province of BC in the fall.

The Flywire Charitable Foundation just announced its Academic Scholarship Program for 2023
Eight total scholarships of $5,000 USD each will be awarded across the following themes:
- Social justice
- Global health
- Global citizenship
- Environmental sustainability
