MSIF McDonald Fellowship

Description

The McDonald Fellowship helps early-career researchers from low- and middle-income countries advance multiple sclerosis (MS) research by spending two years abroad in a recognized MS research institution. It’s fully funded and designed so you gain skills, networks, and experience, then take them home to boost MS research & care in your own country.

What’s included:

  • Two-year grant (~ €55,000 per year) paid to the host institution to cover salary, research costs, travel, and living expenses

  • One return flight to the host country

Who can apply:

  • Early-career MS researchers (MSc, PhD, or MD level)

  • Citizens of low- or middle-income countries

  • Working or studying in eligible countries, or already collaborating on a project started within 6 months before applying

  • Must have a proposed host supervisor & institution outside their own country

Expectations & outcomes:

  • Develop new expertise and methods &/or carry out joint research projects

  • Build connections with MS research communities abroad

  • Return to your country to apply what you learned in research, clinical practice, or patient care

Timeline & deadline:

  • Fellowship must start within 12 months of award

  • Application deadline: 1 December 2025
