The KDDI Foundation helps create an affluent society by spreading the benefits of ICT to every corner of the world.

We contribute to the sustainable development of the international community and the fulfillment of the SDGs by flexibly responding to changing social issues in the COVID-19 pandemic and by promoting projects for public interest purposes—namely our Grant and Awards Programs, International Cooperation Projects, and ICT Promotion Projects—and by utilizing and applying ICT.

Grant Programs

Efforts for the Sound Spread and Promotion of Information and Communications, and Contributions to the Harmonious Development of Society

The KDDI Foundation carries out grant programs for studies and projects that contribute to the spread and promotion of ICT in the following categories: (1) research, (2) activities contributing to society through ICT and international cultural exchange activities, (3) organizing international conferences, (4) foreign exchange students, (5) Japanese exchange students, (6) students studying languages and culture in the developing countries in Southeast Asia, (7) publishing works and attending academic meetings abroad, (8) youth education and training activities, (9) Research and activities on bridging the digital divide.

Awards Program

Contributions to the Promotion of Academic Research Related to Information and Communications

We commend researchers who have attained distinguished achievements in ICT research and activities that contribute to the sustainable development of society, such as for the spread, development, and globalization of ICT and the utilization or the application of ICT to solve social issues.

International Cooperation Projects

Contributions toward the Promotion of International Mutual Understanding and the Development of the International Community

To aid the sound development of the international community, the KDDI Foundation provides technical, educational, and cultural support in international cooperation projects as we provide support for developing countries in both tangible and intangible ways to help them grow sustainably, with a focus on ICT. We also work in overseas human development and the Digital Divide Reduction Projects as part of our technical support. Our work in educational support includes the opening of elementary schools through charity concerts as well as efforts to help with learning in the COVID-19 pandemic. We engage in cultural support through efforts to promote traditional art as well as music and art education.

ICT Promotion Projects

Contributions toward the Development of an Advanced Information Society

The KDDI Foundation carries out the following ICT promotion projects with the aim to spread and promote ICT to thereby help build an advanced information society:
(1) Preparatory Workshops for the MCPC Mobile System and MCPC IoT System Engineering Certifications
(2) Organizing the International Communication Forum (co-hosted with The Japan Society of Information and Communication Research)
(3) Issuing the Annual Satellite Communications Report
