IIAS “Asia in the World” Fellowship Programme

A 12-month fully residential fellowship (Oct 2026 – Oct 2027) for early- to mid-career researchers in the Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences.
Three-phase structure:
1. Six months at IIAS in Leiden
2. Three to five months at a partner institution abroad
3. Return to IIAS to wrap up research and share outcomes
Monthly stipend (~€1,250 in Leiden), furnished housing in Leiden and at host institution, and a one-time travel grant included.
Applicants must hold a PhD (or be defending by February 2026), be fully available for the full fellowship period, and not hold another fellowship or job during it.
Key themes: “Asian Cities”, “Global Asia”, “The Politics of Culture” — interdisciplinary work encouraged.
