Organised by the Commonwealth Youth Programme, these annual awards recognise outstanding young people (aged 15 – 29) from the 56 Commonwealth member countries who are making a significant impact through youth-led development initiatives. Commonwealth+1
What’s Offered
Regional finalists receive a grant of £1,000, a certificate, and a trophy.
Regional winners receive an additional £2,000 (total £3,000), plus certificate and trophy.
One pan-Commonwealth winner is named “Commonwealth Young Person of the Year” and receives an additional £2,000 (total £5,000).
Recognition on a global platform, with networking opportunities and visibility for youth-led projects.
Eligibility & Requirements
Applicants must be citizens of a Commonwealth country and aged between 15 and 29 on 31 December of the nomination year.
Nominees should have at least 12 months of professional or voluntary development-work experience in a Commonwealth country.
Nominations may be submitted by the individual or someone familiar with their work, describing the development initiative and its impact.
Key Focus Areas
Projects aligning with one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Youth-led action in areas such as education, health, human rights, innovation, climate action, peacebuilding, and community development.
Deadline
Applications for the 2026 cycle close on 17 October 2025 at 23:59 GMT.
