About the BNI Palliative Care Scholarship
Nationally, BNI New Zealand funds the BNI Palliative Care Scholarships Programme, supporting Hospice NZ’s commitment to growing leaders in palliative care. The scholarships are focused on supporting the professional development of psychosocial and allied health staff employed by hospices who are members of Hospice NZ.
BNI New Zealand has sponsored the BNI Palliative Care Scholarships Programme since 2007, donating more than $209,000 in that time to fully fund the programme. Each year, the scholarships continue to be sought after by high calibre applicants.
Applications are now closed for 2024. They will re-open for the 2025 scholarship programme in October 2024.
More about our partnership with BNI.
Since 2007, BNI® New Zealand and Hospice NZ have proudly stood together as national partners, working together to help ensure hospice care remains free of charge for New Zealanders with a life limiting illness
Hospice NZ Chief Executive, Wayne Naylor says, “Hospice care is about the whole person and their whānau – family, and this means that their physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs are equally important. Critical to this holistic care are the allied health professionals working in hospices, including Social Workers, Counsellors, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapist, as well as a range of other therapy specialists. BNI’s support for this key group of staff, through the scholarship programme, helps to ensure there is a highly skilled workforce committed to caring for people in the best possible way as they approach the end of life. We are sincerely grateful to BNI for their commitment to the philosophy of ‘Givers Gain’ and the work of Hospice.”
Graham Southwell, National Director of BNI New Zealand, says there is a perfect synergy between our two organisations due to our shared values. “BNI’s philosophy is about ‘Givers’ Gain®’ and growing successful businesses within the community they operate in. Hospice is about supporting the communities in which people live. Doing good is good for business. Both of our organisations share values of people connecting with people, and developing relationships based on trust”.
