In 2024, the ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents will offer 200 fully-funded scholarships to international students for master, or doctoral studies in China, providing financial support including travel expenses, a monthly stipend, sponsorship for a Chinese study visa, a waiver of application and tuition fees.
The ANSO Scholarship, formerly known as the CAS-TWAS Scholarship, represents a significant collaboration between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). This alliance emphasizes the promotion of advanced scientific education and research, particularly in developing regions. Annually, 200 scholarships are awarded to international candidates for doctoral studies in China.
Financial Benefits of the ANSO Scholarship 2024
The scholarship covers travel expenses, a monthly stipend of RMB 6000 to RMB 7000 for PhD students and around 3000 RMB for Master degree students, a fee waiver for application and tuition, and a one-time visa fee compensation as explained in below table:

Universities Participating in ANSO Scholarship: USTC and UCAS
The scholarship program allows recipients to study at prominent institutions like the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), or various CAS Institutes.
Eligibility Criteria for ANSO Scholarship Applicants:
- Candidates are prohibited from applying to both USTC and UCAS for the ANSO Scholarship; doing so will result in disqualification.
- Proficiency in English or Chinese is required.
- Master’s program candidates must have a birth date on or after January 1, 1994.
- PhD program candidates must have a birth date on or after January 1, 1989.
- Applicants must not be Chinese citizens.
- Scholarship recipients must not engage in any other assignments during their scholarship term.
- Applicants must satisfy the international student admission requirements of USTC or UCAS.
- Current master’s students in China are ineligible for the ANSO master’s scholarship; current doctoral students in China are ineligible for the ANSO doctoral scholarship. Noncompliance will lead to disqualification and notification to the institution of current enrolment.
Application Process of ANSO Scholarship for USTC and UCAS 2024

Which documents are needed for ANSO scholarship application submission at UCAS or USTC in 2024?
- Health Examination: Submit the completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form
- Research Proposal: Provide a detailed study or research proposal of no less than 800 words.
- Valid Passport Copy: An ordinary passport with at least one year of remaining validity is required.
- Academic Credentials: Notarized photocopies of bachelor’s and master’s degree certificates (if applicable) and transcripts are necessary.
- Current Students: Must present official doc proving student status and expected graduation date.
- Recommendation Letters: Two letters from full professors or associate professors from previous university
- Employed Applicants: Provide official documents confirming employment status and approved study leave.
- Resume/CV: A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae should be submitted.
- Graduates Awaiting Degrees: An official explanation for not yet receiving the degree certificate and a clear statement of when it will be obtained is required.
- Translation Requirement: Notarized translations in Chinese or English must be attached if the original documents are in another language.
English or Chinese Language Requirements
For the ANSO Scholarship 2024, candidates opting for Chinese-taught programs must submit a photocopy of their HSK certificate, demonstrating at least level 4 proficiency. Those applying for English-taught programs are required to provide a photocopy of their IELTS or TOEFL results, or equivalent proof of English language proficiency, unless they are native speakers of English.
