The Merit Scholarships at the University of Hamburg provide financial support to outstanding international students and doctoral researchers, recognizing both academic excellence and social engagement in the university’s multicultural environment.

🏅 Scholarship Highlights

• Monthly stipend: up to €930

• Doctoral researchers may receive up to €1,000 (limited availability)

• Award duration: 2 semesters (12 months), renewable up to 2 years (in some doctoral cases, up to 3 years)

✅ Eligibility Requirements

• Must hold non-German citizenship

• Enrolled at University of Hamburg for at least 2 semesters

  • Students in 2‑year Master’s or doctoral programs may apply after 1 semester

• Not eligible for Germany’s federal student loan (BAföG)

📝 Selection Criteria

• Strong academic record and GPA

• Evidence of extracurricular, social, or intercultural engagement

• Achievements such as presentations, awards, or publications

• Motivation and financial need may also be considered
