START Programme – Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR)

The START (Student Advanced Research Training) Programme is an international, research-focused opportunity hosted by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR). It offers undergraduate, Master’s, and early-stage PhD students the chance to gain hands-on research experience in a major global scientific institution, working alongside professional researchers on real projects.

Eligibility Criteria

• Field of study must be related to physics, engineering, computer science, mathematics, or applied sciences

Program Structure

• The programme is offered in separate sessions (e.g. winter and summer)

• Participants are selected through a competitive process based on academic background and motivation

• Students work full-time on research projects within JINR laboratories

• The programme may serve as a pathway to future thesis supervision or doctoral research

• Deadlines are announced per session

• For the Winter Session, applications typically close around late October

• For the Summer Session, applications usually close around March
