Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship – Monash University

The Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship (SJMN) supports graduate research students at Monash University whose work is environmentally responsible and socially beneficial.

What’s Offered

• A living stipend of AUD $52,352 per year (2025 rate).

• A research allowance to support project-related costs.

• A relocation allowance if eligible.

Eligibility Criteria

• Open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, humanitarian visa holders, and international students.

• Research must be environmentally responsible and socially beneficial.

• Available for research within these faculties: Arts (School of Music only), Engineering, Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences, and Science.

• Must meet Monash’s English language requirements and competitive scholarship selection criteria.

Process & Structure

• Apply for your graduate research degree (Master’s by research or PhD) at Monash and indicate consideration for scholarships.

• Applicants are automatically considered for SJMN if eligible; you do not need a separate application for this scholarship.

• Only one scholarship is awarded every two years.

• Applications close on 31 October in the year the scholarship is offered.
