The Maxwell King PhD Scholarship is a top-tier research award at Monash University (Australia), designed to support outstanding doctoral candidates from across all disciplines—including both STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) and HASS (Humanities & Social Sciences).

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants can be international students, Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents, or holders of an Australian humanitarian visa.

• Applicants must be applying for or already enrolled in a full-time PhD at Monash University.

• They must demonstrate high academic performance, strong research potential, and meet English language requirements.

• Selection occurs annually and competition is highly selective: only two awards are made each year—one for STEM and one for HASS disciplines.

Process & Structure

• Candidates apply simultaneously for their PhD admission and scholarship consideration via the Monash Graduate Research application system.

• Faculties may require a prior invitation from a potential supervisor before the scholarship application can proceed.

• Short-listing and final decisions are based on academic merit, research experience, alignment with faculty research priorities and candidate potential.

Deadline

• The scholarship application closes on 31 October each year for the following year’s intake.
