The Mandela Scholarship Fund supports talented South African students from four partner universities to study for one or two semesters at Leiden University in the Netherlands. It aims to strengthen academic and cultural exchange between South Africa and the Netherlands.
What’s Offered
A monthly living allowance of €1,250 for students from UCT, UP, or UWC, and €625 for those from Stellenbosch University.
Comprehensive student insurance for the duration of the exchange.
Access to Leiden’s wide range of faculties, including Humanities, Law, Medicine, Social Sciences, and more.
Eligibility Criteria
Open to students enrolled at one of the following: Stellenbosch University, University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria, or University of the Western Cape.
Applicants must be pre-selected by their home university and meet Leiden’s exchange admission requirements.
Cannot be combined with an Erasmus+ ICM scholarship.
Process & Structure
Apply through your home university for nomination.
Once nominated, apply to Leiden University for exchange admission.
Final selections are made jointly by both institutions.
