The Harvard Environmental Fellows Program is a fully funded, highly prestigious two-year postdoctoral fellowship hosted by the Harvard University Center for the Environment. It is designed for outstanding early-career scholars to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research on global environmental challenges while collaborating with leading Harvard faculty.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to early-career researchers worldwide
  • Must hold a PhD or equivalent terminal degree
  • Degree must be awarded between May 2022 and August 2026 (for 2026 cycle)
  • Strong academic record and demonstrated research potential
  • Must propose an independent research project (not an extension of PhD work)
  • Required to secure a Harvard faculty host/mentor before applying
  • Open to all nationalities (English proficiency required)

Program Structure

  • Duration: 2 years (starting around July–September 2026)
  • Fellows conduct independent, interdisciplinary research
  • Work closely with a Harvard faculty mentor and research group
  • Participate in:
    • Seminars and academic discussions
    • Collaborative research activities
    • Biweekly dinners with faculty and guest speakers
  • Strong emphasis on cross-disciplinary collaboration and real-world environmental impact
