ETH Fellows Postdoctoral Fellowship

This is a competitive fellowship programme for incoming postdoctoral researchers who have already shown strong scientific promise early in their careers. The goal is to support you in achieving academic independence and building a path toward becoming a leader in your field.

What the fellowship offers:

• Full salary for two years under ETH’s postdoc standards

• Research budget (≈ CHF 12,000/year) for travel, mobility, project costs, experiments, etc.

• A mentor: an ETH professor who supports your work and helps build synergies between your proposal and the host group

Who can apply:

• Researchers who have completed (or will imminently complete) their PhD, with the PhD no more than two years old at the time of application

• Applicants who did not earn their PhD from ETH Zurich or University of Zurich

• Must not have been living/working in Switzerland for more than 12 months of the past 3 years (for non-Swiss applicants)

• Need at least one peer-reviewed publication (or significant recognition for thesis work)

What’s expected of you:

• You propose your own project (ETH gives priority to original ideas, not just continuation of previous work)

• Full engagement with the host ETH lab/group, collaboration, planning, delivering results

• External reference letters; supported by a host professor at ETH

Important timelines:

• Two application rounds each year: March 1 and September 1, deadlines at 17:00 Swiss local time

• After submitting, ETH reviews applications and selects candidates; those shortlisted have video-interviews

• Fellows are expected to start at most 8 months after the application deadline
