Description

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships are fully-funded awards for exceptional candidates from low and middle-income Commonwealth countries to pursue a full-time taught master’s degree at a UK university.

What’s Offered

  • Full tuition fee coverage for the UK university programme.

  • Return economy airfare between the scholar’s home country and the UK.

  • A living allowance (stipend) for the duration of the award.

  • Additional allowances such as warm clothing, study travel grants, and dependent child support where eligible.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be citizens of or permanent residents in eligible Commonwealth countries.

  • By the start of the UK academic year (typically September), applicants must hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second class (2:2) with a relevant postgraduate qualification.

  • Applicants must demonstrate that they would not be able to afford UK study without the scholarship.

  • Study must be in a field that contributes to the development goals of the home country and aligns with one of the scholarship’s development themes.

Process & Structure

  • Apply via the national nominating agency or other approved nominator in your country.

  • Select your master’s programme and ensure it is in a UK university approved by the scholarship scheme.

  • Complete the online application system, including supporting documentation (references, transcripts, motivation statements).

  • Shortlisted candidates may be interviewed; final selection is made by the awarding body.

Deadline

  • Application deadlines vary by country but typically fall between early September and mid-October for the intake starting in the following academic year.
