Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS Type B) – Tsinghua University

The CGS Type B, also known as the Chinese University Program, offers full and partial scholarships to outstanding non-Chinese citizens pursuing Master’s or PhD degrees at Tsinghua University. This highly competitive program is coordinated through Tsinghua and supported by the China Scholarship Council (CSC).

Who Can Apply

• Citizenship from outside China, in good physical and mental health.

• Master’s applicants: ≤ 35 years old; PhD applicants: ≤ 40 years old.

• Pre-admission by Tsinghua University and departmental recommendation is mandatory.

• Applicants must not hold another graduate-level scholarship at Tsinghua or have already been nominated by another university for CGS.

Funding Coverage

• Full CGS includes tuition, accommodation (or subsidy), living stipend, and health insurance.

• Partial CGS awards may include one or more of these benefits.

Duration

• Master’s degrees: 1–3 years

• PhD degrees: 4–5 years

Application Process

1. Apply and receive pre-admission to a graduate program at Tsinghua before the CGS deadline (highly recommended before December 15, 2024).

2. Departments nominate pre-admitted students for the CGS Type B.

3. Tsinghua submits nominations to the CSC; final selections are made after CSC review.
