Description
This fellowship supports outstanding scholars in the humanities and social sciences to dedicate time to major research projects. It gives mid-career researchers relief from teaching or administrative duties so they can focus fully on research and public engagement.
What You Get
- Funding for 6 to 12 months to concentrate on one major piece of work
- Covers up to 80% of the total research cost under Full Economic Costing
- Salary capped (maximum ~£80,000) plus funds for research costs
- Maximum total award up to ~£152,000
Who Can Apply
- Scholars based at UK-higher education or research institutions
- Those who have already made significant contributions in their field and can communicate research to general audiences
- Typically within 15 years of earning a doctorate or first academic appointment; allowances made for career breaks

- A strong proposal for research that combines academic rigor + public engagement
- Clear plan for communicating research outcomes beyond academia
- Use of the fellowship period to produce significant outputs
Timeline
- Scheme opens early July; deadline in mid-August
