British Academy Innovation Fellowships – Route B: Policy-led (Sustainable Futures)
Description
This fellowship is for early- and mid-career researchers in the humanities & social sciences who want to work closely with UK government departments to shape policy responses for sustainable futures.
What you’ll get:
Up to £120,000 in funding (on the basis of Full Economic Costing at 80%)
12-month award period
Flexible time commitment: expect to spend between 40% and 80% of your working time on the Fellowship
What you’ll be working on:
Partner with one of the UK government’s departments: Defra (environment & land recovery), DESNZ (energy security / net zero), or the Government Office for Science
Address policy challenges such as landscape recovery, public participation in energy/climate policy, and climate-society-international intersections
Who can apply:
Researchers based in the UK at a Higher Education Institution or Independent Research Organization
Applicants must be at an early- or mid-career stage, with a long-term academic appointment during the fellowship period
Timeline:
Fellowship duration: 12 months, starting around March 2026
