The ADB–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP) at The University of Tokyo offers full financial support for outstanding students from ADB member developing countries to pursue a master’s degree at one of Asia’s top universities. The program aims to foster future leaders who will contribute to the sustainable development of their home countries.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be citizens of an ADB borrowing member country.

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with an excellent academic record.

  • Have at least two years of full-time professional work experience after obtaining a university degree.

  • Be under 35 years old at the time of application (in most cases).

  • Agree to return to their home country after completing their studies to contribute to its development.

Process & Structure

  • Apply first for admission to a master’s program at the University of Tokyo.

  • Indicate interest in being considered for the ADB–JSP scholarship when submitting your application.

  • Submit required documents including transcripts, recommendation letters, proof of employment, and an essay outlining development goals.

  • Only candidates offered admission will be nominated for the scholarship.

Deadline

  • Applications typically close between December and February, depending on the program and department.
