EPFL Summer Research Program – School of Life Sciences

The EPFL Summer Research Program is a fully funded, highly competitive 8-week research internship hosted by the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. The program offers undergraduate and early master’s students hands-on experience in cutting-edge life sciences research, working directly within top-tier laboratories in one of Europe’s leading innovation hubs.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to international students worldwide
  • Must be:
    • Bachelor’s students (after completing at least 2 years), or
    • Early-stage Master’s students
  • Must be enrolled in a degree program during the program period
  • Fields include:
    • Biology
    • Biophysics
    • Bioengineering
    • Bioinformatics
    • Chemistry
    • Quantitative Biology and related disciplines
  • Strong academic performance and interest in research (highly competitive selection)
  • PhD students are not eligible

Program Structure

  • Full-time lab immersion (~40 hours/week) working on active research projects
  • Collaboration with research teams and faculty mentors
  • Participation in workshops on scientific integrity, career development, and research skills
  • Engagement in interdisciplinary scientific discussions
  • Final presentation of research through a poster session at the closing symposium
