Description
The New York Times Newsroom Fellowship is a highly competitive, paid, year-long professional development programme that places early-career journalists directly into one of the world’s leading newsrooms. The fellowship is designed to build practical skills, editorial judgment and storytelling expertise across reporting, editing, visual and audience-focused roles.

Exposure to newsroom operations in major hubs such as New York, Washington, San Francisco and potentially London, depending on placement.
Eligibility Criteria
Open to early-career journalists, including recent graduates and professionals with limited experience.
Candidates should have a strong portfolio or clips demonstrating journalistic ability; those with more than about five years of professional experience (beyond internships) are typically not eligible.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the location of their fellowship placement.
Process & Structure
This is a full-time, newsroom-based programme where fellows contribute to real editorial work and newsroom projects.
Fellows receive ongoing guidance from editors and engage in workshops, trainings and networking opportunities.
The fellowship typically runs for 12 months starting in June and ending the following May.
